wind racers

In science on friday, we made Wind Racers. We had 30 minutes to build the racer, and then we raced them. I was in a team with Braydon

(Picture coming soon)

Calculate the speed.
 V=Δd/Δt
 Δd=9m
 Δt=10.34s (ish I don't remember)
 9m/10.34=0.870406189555
 V=0.870ms-2

Why did I choose my style? How could I have changed my design to make the racer go faster?
I choose the style I did because I thought it would go fast. Big sail, means lots of wind can be caught, meaning speed. That didn't happen. One, the racer kept breaking, and two, the sail was very floppy soo, that didn't help.
What could I do to make it go faster, tie the sail down, attach things better, maybe have a different sail shape

Stone age technology

In Social Studies we have been looking at technology though the ages. Paige Thomas and I looked at the stone age. here is the work we did

https://www.visme.co/timeline-maker/

1. Explain the advancements in technology for your era in paragraph format

The Stone Age was a broad prehistoric period during which stone was widely used to make tools with an edge, a point, or a percussion surface. The period lasted for roughly 3.4 million years and ended with the advent of melting and smelting of copper between 8700 and 2000 BCE. In western Asia this occurred by about 3000 BCE, when bronze became widespread. The term Bronze Age describes a time where certain cultures that had developed techniques and technologies for working copper into tools, replacing stone in many ways. Stone Age artifacts that have been discovered include tools used by modern humans, by their predecessor species in the Genus Homo, and possibly by the earlier partly contemporaneous genera Australopithecus and Paranthropus. The Stone Age happened at the same time of the evolution of the genus Homo, with the possible exception of the early Stone Age, when species prior to the Homo may have manufactured tools. Homo erectus, the predecessor of modern humans, found an ecological niche as tool makers and developed a dependence on it.

2. Include a timeline of the main technologies discovered in your era include dates and images

3. Select 5 of these inventions and explain what they do and how they improved everyday life.

Hand ax. It was made out of a sharpened stone. They were used to dig, chop wood, catch prey and prepare skins and food.

Fire (pit) Man found out that striking Iron pyrites onto flint would produce sparks (which were few and far between, and cold), which could be caught in horses hoof or King Alfred cake fungus, so they could turn that into fire.

Paint and art, they would have made the paints from ground up rocks and the brushes, would either be their hands twigs, moss, or horse hair brushes. They also blew paint onto the walls with bone tubes and reed pipes. They made the paint by grounding up colored rocks or charcoal, and mixing it with spit, water or animal fat. The cave painting was one of the ways modern humans learned of their predecessors.

Hammer stone was usually a hard stone which doesn’t break easily. It was made of sandstone, quartzite, or limestone and used for breaking other stones which were converted into other stone tools with sharp edges.

Mono and metate were two stones used together to crush things down to a dust or pulp. One of the things it was used for was to grind up plants, making the earliest form of medicine.

Harpoons were used for hunting purposes. Big aquatic animals like whales were killed using harpoons. A rope could be attached to the harpoon to pull the hunted animals toward the hunter.

4. Are these things still used today? How much have they changed/or not explain and show images

Hand axes are now mainly made of a sharp metal blade attached to a wooden handle, however some could be made with plastic handles, and are mainly used for chopping wood. They are more durable, and can last longer without having to be sharpened

Fireplace it can keep a house warm and has upgraded from a brick implement that could be shaken down by an earthquake to one made of metal. We have also invented matches and lighters, which make lighting a fire much easier.

Modern day hammers, once a hard rock, have now become a piece of shaped, hardened metal attached to a handle, made out of wood, plastic, or metal. Some hammers are heavier and are used to demolish/smash things, and others are smaller and are used to drive nails into wood. They can also be used to remove nails.

Mortar and pestle coming from the moto and metate is also used by rubbing two stones together but the stones have been shaped for modern needs. They are also more durable, and are less likely to wear down

Art, We now can make synthetic paints that stick well and are very pigmented, and we have brushes that last a long time, and are better/easier to use. We also have different types of paints for different jobs, and for different looks , (Watercolor, acrylic, poster, oil, gouache, outdoor ect)

Harpoon guns are still used for fishing but now guns are motorized and are now made of a metal spike rather than a long and sharp piece of bone. They also have longer strings/wires and can pull in larger fish.

5. Include a clip explaining the advancements of technology in your era.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L87Wdt044b0

6. Create a replica of one of these inventions out of easy to reach materials from around school and home or create an artwork that represents/shows off all the amazing things that were invented and discovered during your era.

Egg drop

In science we are looking at forces and motion, so we did an egg drop. Why? I'm not 100% sure, but it was fun nonetheless.

We had a foam spongy thing that had a hole in it where we put the egg, then had a fiber pad thing under that, and fluffy cotton on top. We wrapped all that in bubble wrap, and then added skewers as leg thingys. Then lastly we made a parachute and attached that. It weighed 105.30 grams. Pictures will be coming when they come though.

We dropped in T9, and....... the Egg broke. *Sad face* Na it survived. *Happy face* Most did, I think only one broke. afterwards the boys were being..... boys, and were kicking it as if it was a football/rugby ball.

Food time line

In home economics we have been looking at the advancements in food in New Zealand, we had to make a timeline for it. Here is mine

Sorry if you can not read it, I have no idea how to make it bigger

Critical Literacy Questions for Children of Blood and Bone

In english we have been reading Children of blood and bone. I have finished the book ahead of the class so.... ya. It was a good book, but I won't talk about it in case of spoilers.

Warm-up…
Who would be most likely to read this text and why? Young adults, it is very action packed, definitely not for younger readers as it is a little bit graphic and is slightly suggestive.

What sort of genre does the text belong to? fantasy adventure.

What does the author of the text want us to know? (Could be many things here) People aren't their parents, discrimination is a thing, and how it can be implied. you are stronger than you know? I dont know any others

Let’s get critical…
Whose views are excluded in the text? Privileged in the text? People like King Saran, Tzain, Kaea, are excluded, and Zelie, Amrai and Inan is Privileged, meaning they get to talk

Who is allowed to speak in this text? Zelie Amrai and Inan

Is the text fair? Not really, because they don't show the king's perspective, or Kaea's, who have the opposite goal then the main three.

What positions, voices and interests are at play in the text? The interests shown/are at play are that the maji are good and should be brought back

Why is the text written the way it is? (3 characters’ viewpoints) So you get more sides of the story, you get information that the characters dont know, it makes it more interesting

Hope these answers are good.

DTE Recap

In DTE so far in this term, we have been do intro stuff, This is what we have done.

The first couple of lessons we made a website to display our work.
We then looked at how computers work

We also made a design process poster thing. This was easyish to do. Nothing much to say here

inspiration

UX Design Process: Must Haves for 3 Key Phases | Adobe BlogIdea to validation and decision: one design process in practice ...Engineering Design Process - TeachEngineering

Then we made Infographics on ergonomics, I didn't finish that, so there is no picture (I literally only have a title and a chair on it. everything else came and went). Why I didn't finish, I don't really know, but it is not from lack of trying, I think I was just very confused and didn't know what to put. I'm not 100% sure, I just think that day just wasn't my day.

Somewhere in there, we also went on Code.org, and/or Tinkercad and played around on that.

I have kinda enjoyed what we have been doing. I would prefer more coding but I know we have to do the intro stuff first. Watch me in a couple of weeks be going "There is to much coding!" But I mean, this is a coding course sooo, that is to be expected.

Jam drops

In Home Ec, we made Jam drops. We made these because we are looking at culture and how it shaped our food we eat today. The Jam Drops are from England brought over by the british settlers. We used self raising flour, which the settlers wouldn't  have because they wouldn't have baking powder, they would of had to use something else.

FQ 4: Evaluating your Job – the what and why you are interested in this career

You need to answer these questions and you are expected to write a paragraph for each.

Why do you think this job is important, what values does it promote? I don’t know. It’s important for kids to learn and grow and the EC teachers are here to help that. I really don’t know

Why have you chosen this career to investigate? I think it may be fun, and I think I would be good at it

What qualities and skills do you already have that suit this career? I help in the Creche in church other than that not much

What qualities and skills do you need to develop for this career? a way to control my temper, and get more patients. and to be better at faking my emotions, in other words a lot.

The job market is competitive, what can you do now or in the near future to out-compete others for this job? I have no idea.Make a good Cv?

I think this job is important because kids need to learn and grow, and ECE helps with that. I have chosen this career because I think I would find it fun and I think I would be good at it. I have experience from helping in Creche at church, but other than that I don’t have any skills and/or qualities already. I will however have to learn to control my temper, and get more patients. I would also have to learn to better fake my emotions. I’m not sure how I will out-compete the others looking into this job but I will try my best anyway

FQ 5: What were your sources of Information – bibliography

Include a bibliography which lists the details in full of the different sources of information used. If you are unsure how to set out your bibliography, check the Library webpage.

https://www.otago.ac.nz/study/fees/index.html

FQ 6: Reflecting on the Research Process

What worked / went well for you during the research?
Having the website there with answers,

What have you found challenging during the research?
I don’t know.

How did you try to overcome these challenges?
Well if I don’t know the challenges, how can I overcome them?*

If you were to do this again what would you do differently and why?
I would possibly do counseling instead? I don’t know. But then again, when do I ever?

financial literacy (part 2)

In math we have been looking at Financial literacy, (And yes, this time, I have something to write about)

SO! We have been looking at Percentages and how to work them out. SO! Here are the equations we have looked out

"To write an amount as a percentage, write it first as a fraction and then convert it into a percentage"
(top ፥ bottom x 100 or amount ፥ total x 100)
For example
3 out of 25.
3
25
፥ 25 = 0.12
0.12 x 100 = 12
12%

"To calculate an certain amount, use this rule"
(Percentage ፥ 100 x amount)
FOR EXAMPLE!
25% of 66
 25
100
25 ፥ 100 = 0.25
0.25 x 66 = 16.5
25% of 66 is 16.5

"For percentage increase, multiply the original amount by"
(1+ percentage ፥ 100)
SO! For example
A 15% increase for $40
115
100
115 ፥ 100 = 1.15
1.15 x 40 = 46

LOOK! I DID MATH THIS TIME! BE PROUD OF ME! It is kinda boring though. Time to spice things up! So... Pictures or random shiz? Both....? *evil smirk* LETS GO! Pic's first!

Sooo. I got distracted and can no longer add random shiz here, SO HAVE SOME BEAUTIFUL BOYS (and girls) INSTED
