Final art post

 In this art post, I am going to be talking about the differences/similarity in Giorgio de Chirico's and Tracey Tawhiao's use of grids. I will be using these two pictures as my examples 

In de Chirico's artwork, he uses quite a loose grid. If you overlay a three-by-three grid, you see that some lines/points match up. he also uses unique perspectives. Normally artists have one vanishing point but it looks like de Chirico has at least 3. 

On the other hand, Tracey Tawhio uses quite a strong grid. She works over the top of newspapers, which naturally has a grid, which she can use as a guide for her artworks. 

These are the differences in Giorgio de Chirico's and Tracey Tawhiao's use of grids that I can find.

Another Art blog post

 In this blog post, we are looking at surrealist subversion. 

One of the first things we need to do is read or listen to an article and then watch a video. then we have to do a thumbnail sketch of artwork from the article. here is mine 

This artwork is by Giorgio de Chirico, called The Uncertainty of the Poet, 1913. In this artwork, we can see a female bust on the left side, with a bunch of bananas beside her. There is an archway in the upper right of the painting, and in the background, there is a steam train. The bananas are supposed to be taken sexually. 

This painting is subversive because it doesn't follow the 'rules of art' of when it was made. De Chirico used linear perspectives and erotic ideas in the artwork. 

Tracey Tawhiao

 In art, I have to make another blog post on Tracey Tawhiao. This one is about how she uses space, color, and objects in her work. 

The first thing I had to do was a thumbnail sketch.

The objects she uses to make the artwork are pieces of newspaper, acrylic paints, and a canvas. the objects she uses in the artwork are fish. she has also kept a picture of a kiwi, and the word 'Inside' from the newspapers underneath the paint.

There is also not a lot of free space in the painting. It is mostly taken up by fish though the fish are only line art, so you could say the space in the fish counts. She has also filled each fish with triangle designs and one with Maori designs. 

She also uses only a handful of colors. This helps to not keep the painting too busy, and keep it easy on the eyes. The red color is bright and helps to grab the eye. 

I think that is all I need to do here. =)

Tree drawing

In art, we are doing a drawing project in which we have to do two or three drawings relating to our Kopapa or theme. My theme is environment or more specifically looking after trees. Here is my first drawing for this project.

And yeah, that's what I have been doing in art. 

Sofia Minson

For this artistic blog post, we are going to be looking at Sofia Minson, another Maori Artist. 

We had to watch this video and take notes. 

Again I will summerise. She is a Maori who takes inspiration from other religions deities  (Egyptian, Hindu, Maori, and Christain) 

This is the original artwork. Its name is Queen of Raa  I think.

The image is of a Maori woman wearing a Religious crown/headpiece, however, it is not a Maori religious crown/headpiece. I think it may be a Hindu headpiece or an Egyptian one, I'm not sure.

A difference between Sofia and Tracey is that Sofia uses a canvas while Tracey uses newspapers as her canvas. Sofia also takes ideas from different mythologies and Tracey uses themes from the newspaper. Tracey also normally works in grids and Sofia works in full-page artworks. 

Again I think this is all I need to do. If not... whoops.

Our current objective in art is to research and learn about subversion in the art using methods like thumbnail sketches.

Art is meant to subvert.

My notes are confusing so I will simply them. 

Art is supposed to challenge the art constructs and make people think and question things. However, some people do not appreciate having their views challenged and so they get angry

If art does not challenge them tough, they will get bored of your art. 

Another task we had to do was to make thumbnail sketches of Tracey Tawhiao's work.

Thumbnail versus actual artwork

Within Tracey's work, the act of subversion is shown in the process of painting over a newspaper written in English. Tracey is a Maori artist so by doing this it is almost as if she is trying to cover up the English part of New Zealand. She doesn't make much of an attempt to hide the fact that she is doing it over something is that sometimes she'll let things like words show through. When she paints she uses Maori patterns as if to say that the country should belong to the Maori more than the British. Newspaper is also not really a permanent canvas and is not designed to be painted on.

Another task we had to do was to describe an artwork that she did

In this artwork, (Called Amazon) she did a lot of fish, of varying sizes and shapes. The rounder fish look slightly like targets which might refer to the fish being targeted/hunted. She has kept the word Amazon and a picture of what I assume is the Amazon. she has used a lot of blue in the artwork which might relate to water. 

I think that is all. If not.... well... whoops

Volcano Project

 In science we are making model volcanoes. Here is the process  

Building it

To build it, we were given a milk bottle, a cardboard sheet, news paper, and a water and glue mixture. We were told to paper mache the milk bottle into a volcano shape. Easier said than done. I struggled for the entire period, making an only mediocre looking volcano, that I then was told looked good!? I don't know. Anyway, we left it to dry over the long weekend.

Painting it

Yesterday, we were painting it. There was a trolly full of art supplies and we were set loose. (*Insert evil grin here*) My group painted our volcano grey, before adding metallic paints, because, shiny, and then red spilling from the top as lava. It surprisingly looks good. I will now believe people telling me it looks good.

Stone age technology

In Social Studies we have been looking at technology though the ages. Paige Thomas and I looked at the stone age. here is the work we did

1. Explain the advancements in technology for your era in paragraph format

The Stone Age was a broad prehistoric period during which stone was widely used to make tools with an edge, a point, or a percussion surface. The period lasted for roughly 3.4 million years and ended with the advent of melting and smelting of copper between 8700 and 2000 BCE. In western Asia this occurred by about 3000 BCE, when bronze became widespread. The term Bronze Age describes a time where certain cultures that had developed techniques and technologies for working copper into tools, replacing stone in many ways. Stone Age artifacts that have been discovered include tools used by modern humans, by their predecessor species in the Genus Homo, and possibly by the earlier partly contemporaneous genera Australopithecus and Paranthropus. The Stone Age happened at the same time of the evolution of the genus Homo, with the possible exception of the early Stone Age, when species prior to the Homo may have manufactured tools. Homo erectus, the predecessor of modern humans, found an ecological niche as tool makers and developed a dependence on it.

3. Select 5 of these inventions and explain what they do and how they improved everyday life.

Hand ax. It was made out of a sharpened stone. They were used to dig, chop wood, catch prey and prepare skins and food.





Fire (pit) Man found out that striking Iron pyrites onto flint would produce sparks (which were few and far between, and cold), which could be caught in horses hoof or King Alfred cake fungus, so they could turn that into fire.







Paint and art, they would have made the paints from ground up rocks and the brushes, would either be their hands twigs, moss, or horse hair brushes. They also blew paint onto the walls with bone tubes and reed pipes. They made the paint by grounding up colored rocks or charcoal, and mixing it with spit, water or animal fat. The cave painting was one of the ways modern humans learned of their predecessors.



Hammer stone was usually a hard stone which doesn’t break easily. It was made of sandstone, quartzite, or limestone and used for breaking other stones which were converted into other stone tools with sharp edges.







Mono and metate were two stones used together to crush things down to a dust or pulp. One of the things it was used for was to grind up plants, making the earliest form of medicine. 

Harpoons were used for hunting purposes. Big aquatic animals like whales were killed using harpoons. A rope could be attached to the harpoon to pull the hunted animals toward the hunter.




4. Are these things still used today? How much have they changed/or not explain and show images

Hand axes are now mainly made of a sharp metal blade attached to a wooden handle, however some could be made with plastic handles, and are mainly used for chopping wood. They are more durable, and can last longer without having to be sharpened



Fireplace it can keep a house warm and has upgraded from a brick implement that could be shaken down by an earthquake to one made of metal. We have also invented matches and lighters, which make lighting a fire much easier.




Modern day hammers, once a hard rock, have now become a piece of shaped, hardened metal attached to a handle, made out of wood, plastic, or metal. Some hammers are heavier and are used to demolish/smash things, and others are smaller and are used to drive nails into wood. They can also be used to remove nails.




Mortar and pestle coming from the moto and metate is also used by rubbing two stones together but the stones have been shaped for modern needs. They are also more durable, and are less likely to wear down




Art, We now can make synthetic paints that stick well and are very pigmented, and we have brushes that last a long time, and are better/easier to use. We also have different types of paints for different jobs, and for different looks , (Watercolor, acrylic, poster, oil, gouache, outdoor ect)



Harpoon guns are still used for fishing but now guns are motorized and are now made of a metal spike rather than a long and sharp piece of bone. They also have longer strings/wires and can pull in larger fish.

Art

in art we have been making a painting of manga (anami) and pacifica. yay fun. this is how far I've got so far. yes I know it sucks. 

It is Roman (from sander sides) and virgil (also from sander sides). Virgil is hiding in a cave [because he's a monster thing] and roman come in and finds him. that's the manga part they are supposed to be manga. the shapes on the wall are supposed to be pasifika patterns. 

now the boring part 

1. concepts are the initial design. you normally do a lot of concepts to get your final design. they are noramly rushed. a development is.... ummmm... I think it is the making of the final art work... I don't know =,(

2. yes I have I think

brown = orange [miss calls it 'warm yellow'] and black
gold = yellow and black I think may of been orange not yellow
green = yellow and blue
purple = 'warm' red and 'warm' blue
dark red = red and black

3. ok the process of painting. first, you grab your pencil... ok ok I'm not doing that. first draw your final design. then under paint it. that is painting the whole thing in yellow or blue. yellow for warmer colours and blue for cooler colours. then paint the final colour on top. whoa you are done. yay! if you need/ want to you can go over the lines in a pen to show out lines.

Yay we did it now back to painting for me.

now i have some q's mr has set 

1. describe my work, what was my inspiration? to be truthful it just came i liked drawing hearts and do i did it on a mountain showing that there is love in the highest place. this is also just what i like to draw. even though i felt girlish doing a heart i still love it 
2. did i have any trouble making this? no
3. dose it have any meaning? yes kinda. for me it means that God's love is everywhere and even if you climb to the top of a mountain you can't escape it 
4. what did i enjoy with this, what could i do better? i enjoyed the cutting and printing. something i could do better? nothing 
5. what have I learned? I've learnt how to lino cut, how to print, how to draw in perspective and not to pick your first draft
