Sofia Minson

For this artistic blog post, we are going to be looking at Sofia Minson, another Maori Artist.

We had to watch this video and take notes.

Again I will summerise. She is a Maori who takes inspiration from other religions deities  (Egyptian, Hindu, Maori, and Christain)

This is the original artwork. Its name is Queen of Raa  I think.

Queen of Raa Maori woman portrait painting with moko kauae and Egyptian crown by Sofia Minson | New zealand art, Polynesian art, Maori art

The image is of a Maori woman wearing a Religious crown/headpiece, however, it is not a Maori religious crown/headpiece. I think it may be a Hindu headpiece or an Egyptian one, I'm not sure.

A difference between Sofia and Tracey is that Sofia uses a canvas while Tracey uses newspapers as her canvas. Sofia also takes ideas from different mythologies and Tracey uses themes from the newspaper. Tracey also normally works in grids and Sofia works in full-page artworks.

Again I think this is all I need to do. If not... whoops.

(Edit 13/8/21)

Sofia Minson uses subversion in her work by combining different religions and deities together in her artworks.

Reflection Section - The Cult of Dionysus.

It's Friday again which means another book reflection. Let's get into it.

Title: The Cult of Dionysus (Book)

Author: Ynyr on Fanfiction.net

Type: Fanfiction

Purpose: To entertain.

Who would read this book and why? Harry Potter fans who like different Au's and people who don't mind Harry being a bit OOC (Out of character). Possibly some Percy Jackson fans/Graak Mytholagie fans as well, but not many.

Reflection section - Dimension soulmates - By Michcamnz

It's Friday again and so another reflection section! Yay! anyway, let's get onto it

Title: Dimension Soulmates Story
Author: Michcamnz
Purpose: To entertain
Blurb: Katherin Drawn is a normal girl. Well, that is if you count mysterious writing appearing on your skin at random times, and saying random things. When Katherin finally writes back, her whole life gets flipped upside down, as cliche as that sounds.

Who would read this and why?
Harry Potter fans who like the ink on skin soulmate trope, because that is what it is about. And also it's interesting.

Reflection section - Rebirth by Michi on Webtoon

In Wanaga we are doing another reflection section. I know I technically just posted one, but that was last weeks. Whoops. Here is this weeks

Text title: Rebirth Story

Text type: Graphic novel

Text creator: Michi

Text purpose: To entertain

Date: 26th February, 2021

How are children, teenagers, young adults, and adults constructed in this text?
The children are ignored by the adults and not taken seriously, while the adults are trying to take control, even only one of them knows whats going on. And one of the children properly also knows what's going on, but i'm not sure.

Tracey Tawhiao subversion

Our current objective in art is to research and learn about subversion in the art using methods like thumbnail sketches.

One of our objectives is to take notes from the following website:

Art is meant to subvert.

My notes are confusing so I will simply them.
Art is supposed to challenge the art constructs and make people think and question things. However, some people do not appreciate having their views challenged and so they get angry
If art does not challenge them tough, they will get bored of your art.

Another task we had to do was to make thumbnail sketches of Tracey Tawhiao's work.
The thumbnail next to the actual painting.

Thumbnail versus actual artwork

Within Tracey's work, the act of subversion is shown in the process of painting over a newspaper written in English. Tracey is a Maori artist so by doing this it is almost as if she is trying to cover up the English part of New Zealand. She doesn't make much of an attempt to hide the fact that she is doing it over something is that sometimes she'll let things like words show through. When she paints she uses Maori patterns as if to say that the country should belong to the Maori more than the British. Newspaper is also not really a permanent canvas and is not designed to be painted on.

Another task we had to do was to describe an artwork that she did

Paintings - Tracey Tawhiao - Australian Art Auction Records

In this artwork, (Called Amazon) she did a lot of fish, of varying sizes and shapes. The rounder fish look slightly like targets which might refer to the fish being targeted/hunted. She has kept the word Amazon and a picture of what I assume is the Amazon. she has used a lot of blue in the artwork which might relate to water.

I think that is all. If not.... well... whoops
